Over thanksgiving break, I was given the opportunity to interview my dad. I asked him questions like “which people most influenced your life personally?” And “share some of your most difficult times.”

Most of his answers related to his immigration to the United States from Vietnam. Assimilation wasn’t hard for him thanks to his amazing care taker that brought him in. However, he pointed out that learning a new language was the hardest part for him.

This reminded me of Mamacita in house of mango street. Her husband was finally able to bring her over but she could only speak Spanish and did not want to go outside. She already immigrated, but the language barrier was inhibiting her from enjoying her new life.
